Dedicated to promoting the Art of Midwifery in the Mahoning Valley

I was recently honored to be recognized by the

American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM)

as a 2010 “Best Practice”

in five categories, and runner-up in four categories including:

  • Highest Total Vaginal Birth Rate (95.9%)
  • Lowest Total C/Section Rate (4.1%)

This national benchmarking project compares midwifery practices of similar size across the United States, helping participants improve and adapt the care they provide to obtain superior outcomes in patient satisfaction, patient safety, and effectiveness.  The project represented more than 53,000 births and 570 midwives.  Among midwifery practices represented, the average vaginal birth rate among small-sized practices (less than 199 births per year) was 88.3%, and the average cesarean section rate was 11.7%.  This is significantly less than the national cesarean rate, which is approaching 35%.

One of the most noticeable differences between a nurse-midwife and a physician is that most midwives offer continuous labor support.

This means that your midwife will be with you during  your entire labor, encouraging you and helping to support your decisions.

She will not arrive just for the delivery of the baby!

In my practice, if you come to see a midwife, you will have a midwife for your birth.  We do not rotate call coverage among multiple practices.
