What happens if my pregnancy isn't "normal"? As a midwife, I firmly believe that the majority of pregnancies are normal, but I know that problems can arise suddenly and unexpectedly.  I am trained to recognize problems associated with pregnancy, and I can diagnose and treat many of these.  However, if your pregnancy falls outside my scope of expertise, you will gain and extra member or two to your pregnancy team!  All nurse-midwives have a written agreement with an ob-gyn physician, who is available for consultation or referral when necessary.
